3 must-dos before 2 more expected typhoons arrive this week

Epic Flooding Experienced in Manila, Philippines
Who would have thought that places that aren't prone to flooding were also submerged in deep murky waters here in Metro Manila?

We are not ready for such weather disturbance again. And, as we are experiencing a sunny afternoon today, we are expecting a typhoon entering the Philippine area of responsibility this Thursday (October 1, 2009) and Friday (October 2, 2009) and another after a couple of days.

Typhoon 2 after Ondoy
What To Do?
Number one thing to do is, we all must seek for God's help. If you haven't tried praying, pray now and thank God you are still reading what I am writing because it simply means that you are safe and alive. How to pray? Close your eyes, use your heart and talk to God.

Second, we all must, spread the correct information and help with whatever we can do.

Let us not spread rumors (e.g. Marikina Dam releasing waters) because this will just cause harm and panic to those who are already suffering.

We need to alert people BUT at the same time, not cause panic. This way, damages can be reduced.

A few tips to get ready for the expected (or future) typhoons
while the sun is up high:
1. Buy food that doesn't need cooking or water to prepare. Stock water. (In case of power outages)

2. Get a bag and put the ff: Batteries. Flash Lights. Radio. Rope. and most importantly-- whistle (in Tagalog, "Pito").
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qyhZ9_eXCHM/SkMMwh6X11I/AAAAAAAABLk/kuBYvlZJNbw/s400/whistle.jpg
better yet, get a crank (wind-up) radio to save battery...
http://keetsa.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/crank-radio_7881.jpg

3. Get one of those inflatable pool boats from toy stores or better yet, buy the real ones. (Make sure that it's not those 99-peso-bargain-boats. You might end up risking your life by buying a cheap one)

Not this one...
http://images.netshops.com/mgen/digimarc.ms?img=master:SPI034.jpg&h=400&w=400

But this kind...
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41MVrf8xdgL._SL500_AA280_.jpg

There you go. The typhoon that struck the Philippines is no joke. To those who have nothing to do like spread rumors and disseminate false information, please, confirm your messages first. And for those heartless messages I've read in Facebook, get a life!

Typhoon Ondoy strikes hard and long

It's currently 730pm here in metro manila and the rain has been going on for more than 24 hours.

Since we don't have electricity, i will just blog some of my thoughts earlier. (I'm typing this whole blog using my mobile phone)

If this would be (exaggerated) similar to the movie, 'the day after tomorrow', are we ready to go?

I was pondering.. We are here on a purpose. We are just travelers and just passing by this place called earth.

Our purpose, is to help save many as we can.
Not in terms of search and rescue operations, but, through God's salvation.

I am a Christian, yes. In that sense, I am ready. But, the ultimate question would be, how many have you led to the Lord?

Going back to typhoon ondoy, my grandma's place would be one of the least possible places to get flooded. It is elevated enough that there is an approx 45 degree ramp for you to enter the parking area. Today, and as I am typing, their first floor is still flooded.

Nothing I can humanly do now but pray. All roads leading there from where i am currently is flooded.

Hearing and reading a lot of far more worst situations than what my grandma is experiencing now and i want to thank God for keeping my grandma safe. Im praying for the others too.

The skies are improving and the rain is backing down a bit.

I hope this continues and lets all pray for the safety and quick recovery of the Philippines because metro manila is still under state of calamity.

We definitely can't afford another 24hour rain with the few resources the Philippines has.

God bless everyone and keep safe!

What Better Way to Start October than to Attend SemCon 2009!?

Really, I don't think there is a better way to start October than attending the Search Engine Marketing Conference 2009!!!

I just posted a blog an event I went to last Sep 21 and after posting it, I checked my live traffic feed. At first, I didn't notice that there were a lot of hits coming from Sir Abe of Yugatech.com. After scrolling down, I was shocked and immediately checked out where the traffic is coming from and where they are going.

After seeing keywords like SemCon 2009 and Winners, I crossed my finger as I check Yugatech... and... there you go!!! I saw my name, just like how a baby would look at his mother, written here on my computer screen. :)

Here was my entry >>> http://cheftonio.blogspot.com/2009/08/search-engine-marketing-conference.html

For the nth time, thank you Yugatech, Fiera and IMV Solutions for holding that contest!

Oh! and by the way, double thank you to Sir Abe. I won his webcam contest last Nov of 2008! :)

White Forest Cake from Red Ribbon

As early as September 1, I already heard Christmas songs playing in malls and restaurants. Today, I was lucky enough to get first dibs on this not-yet-released cake from Red Ribbon.

The White Forest cake from Red Ribbon

Who hasn't heard or eaten the already famous Black Forest Cake? Over the years, the Black Forest has found a place in the hearts of many and knowing Red Ribbon as the leader and innovator in cakes, they made the White Forest cake -- first ever White Forest Cake.

New Apple Products Turns Wants into Needs

After hearing and seeing the live demo of what the new features of the new Apple iPod products, it will instill a thought in your mind that, "you need it!". All the models, from the iPod Shuffle to the iPod Touch has some really neat features! Quoting from our speaker earlier, "As if we haven't put enough features on the iPod."

The iPod Shuffle
http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/6494/ipodshuffle.jpg
Here is a short clip from the Press Release:

SAN FRANCISCO—September 9, 2009—Apple® today announced that iPod shuffle®, the world’s smallest music player and the first music player to talk to you, is now available starting at just PhP 3, 290 in five great colors. iPod shuffle’s intuitive controls are conveniently located on the headphone cord, letting you navigate and enjoy music without even looking. With the press of a button, you can play, pause, adjust volume and switch playlists, plus the VoiceOver feature lets iPod shuffle speak song titles, artists and playlist names. The iPod shuffle is available worldwide today in a new 2GB model for just Php 4,390 and a 4GB model for Php 5,490, and both models come in silver, black, pink, blue and green.

“iPod shuffle is the world’s smallest music player and now comes in five great colors starting at just $59,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “iPod shuffle is so small that you almost forget it’s there, yet remarkably, it holds up to 1,000 songs and talks to you.”

In my opinion, the new features cover-up the iPod Shuffles LCD-less problem. In fact, you don't even need to look at it now because this small thing here talks to you! At a very affodrable price starting at 3,290, this is going to be one popular gadget that many will surely receive this Christmas! Knock you Ninong's door for this!

The iPod Nano
http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/3250/ipodnano.jpg
After buying a pre-owned iPod mini and selling it afterwards, just this year too, I bought my 2nd iPod. iPod Nano. It was pre-owned but I got it in a brand new condition. All stickers and protectors still intact, box still with plastic and almost zero scratches at the chrome-back. Today, I saw the new Nano and you'd definitely think that Apple has come a very long way to innovate new products and integrate several technological features in their products.

A short clip from the PR.

SAN FRANCISCO—September 9, 2009—Apple® today introduced the new iPod nano®, adding a video camera, mic and speaker to the world’s most popular music player. Music lovers can now shoot video wherever they are, view it on their iPod nano and use their computers to easily transfer their videos to YouTube. The new iPod nano features an ultra-thin and sleek design with a larger 2.2-inch color display and gorgeous polished aluminum and glass enclosure. iPod nano also features a built-in FM radio with live pause, as well as a built-in pedometer. The new iPod nano is available today in an 8GB model for PhP 8,790 and a 16GB model for PhP 10,490, and comes in nine brilliant colors including silver, black, purple, blue, green, orange, yellow, (PRODUCT) RED and pink.

“iPod nano is the world’s most popular music player with over 100 million sold,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “And now we’ve added a video camera to its incredibly thin design, without any additional cost to the user.”

iPod nano now has a built-in FM radio with live pause Live pause lets iPod nano users pause and resume playing their favorite FM radio shows..** iPod nano also features Genius Mixes, which automatically creates up to 12 endless mixes of songs from your iTunes library that go great together.

iPod nano is also now an even better workout companion with the new built-in pedometer. iPod nano can keep track of your steps taken and calories burned, helping you meet your short and long-term fitness goals.

I mean, wow! Who ever though that such a tiny device can have jam-packed features! If you were just there, you won't leave without buying one. Really. If I didn't win an iPhone, I'd definitely get one right there and then (if they are selling it..)

But! before buying the Nano, check out the newest iPod Touch!

Here is the new iPod Nano commercial

The iPod Touch
http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/7703/ipodtouch2b.jpg
SAN FRANCISCO—September 9, 2009—Apple® today announced the new iPod touch® lineup starting at the breakthrough price of just PhP 11, 490, giving users a great iPod®, a great pocket computer, a great game player and access to Apple’s revolutionary App Store with over 75,000 applications. iPod touch features Apple’s revolutionary Multi-Touch™ user interface, a gorgeous 3.5-inch widescreen glass display, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a built-in accelerometer and speaker—all in an amazingly thin metal design that slips easily into your pocket. The 8GB iPod touch is now available for just PhP 11, 490, along with new models which deliver twice the capacity for the same price, with the iPod touch 32GB model for PhP 17, 490 and 64GB model for PhP 23, 490.

At lust less than 11,500 pesos? Wow! This device is almost an all-in-one device! I mean, this will take mobile browsing/ gaming/ and a tons of other possibilities into a whole new level!

iPod touch is a great pocket computer, letting users surf the web, do email, manage their calendars, organize contacts, and use social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. With its award-winning Safari® web browser, iPod touch users can experience the Internet like no other pocket-size device. iPod touch comes with the latest iPhone™ 3.1 software including: Cut, Copy and Paste; Spotlight® Search to search across iPod touch or within Mail, Contacts, Calendar and iPod; landscape keyboard for Mail, Notes and Safari; remote lock for MobileMe™ and anti-phishing features.

See? Now, for rich ninong's out there or for those who wants to give their inaaanaks a gift that they will remember for the rest of their lives (no, really, they will. I will too.), go give them this! Oh! For parents, this device is really an all-in-one. They can be more productive with this. No kidding. So if you think your son/daughter has it all but they don't have this, then, this is the perfect gift!

Check out iPod Touch's newest commercial

My words won't give justice to the live experience I had earlier. The demo, the explanation, the gadget itself. With all the new features it has, it turns your wants into needs!

Globe Tattoo Youniverse - Post your Globe complaints here!

Just launched recently, you can now bash Globe directly and pray that they will finally hear you after complaining for thousands of years because here comes... Globe Youniverse!!!

Globe tattoo youniverse
It functions like Digg but, this website is full of stuffs about Globe. For example, you have this idea, you then post it at the Globe Youniverse website and let people vote on it. The higher the number of votes, the higher the chances that your ideas would be finally heard.

I have personally nothing against Globe if they just provide what they say they will provide. For example, here is the "idea" that I posted in their cool website just a few minutes back..

I'm so pissed off with Globe Broadband! Just a few months back, I terminated my Globe Visbility postpaid unlimited line. I terminated my Globe Handyphone line too.

Well, this website gave me hope that one day, they will hear me. As I posted in a seperate blog of mine a few months back, "Who am I to them? I was just a less than 5k pesos subscriber they can afford to lose."

Now, that I had my Globe visibility (now called Globe Tattoo) line disconnected, I'm saving myself 2k pesos a month.

I hope someone teaches Globe how to take care of customers.

Hey, that is a nice suggestion, don't you think?

Vote for my suggestion/idea in the Globe Youniverse if you agree with me here:

Mar Roxas will not run for Presidency - gives way to NoyNoy Aquino

NoyNoy Aquino - Mar Roxas tandem in the 2010 Philippine presidential elections is a sure winner!

A few minutes back, Mar Roxas announced that he won't run and he will give way to Benigno Noynoy Aquino.

What he did made me believe in him more. Mar Roxas did a great thing. A selfless act not many could have done.

I support the Aquino - Roxas tandem!

BUT!! In the event that Mar Roxas will do a Gloria, sorry. In short, I will never vote Mar Roxas for President.

Self-Help: Be a new you in less than a month!

”Yesterday, everybody smoked his last cigar, took his last drink and swore his last oath. Today, we are a pious and exemplary community. Thirty days from now, we shall have cast our reformation to the winds and gone to cutting our ancient shortcomings considerably shorter than ever.”
Mark Twain

This is how Mark Twain described our resolutions -- new years' or not. Question,

"Of all the resolutions you had, how many of you had actually followed it for at least 5 years? 1 year? 6 months? 3 months? a month?"

I myself tried having a resolution. I did my resolution for one whole month... until the energetic idea died by itself. Now, I'm rekindling the flame to re-energize the idea. It's starting to gain heat. What I am doing now is transforming the resolution to a habit.

Challenge: Can you be a new you in just one month?

I saw this site with several options: (I think they are targeting girls only but, wouldn't hurt to read the tips for guys though.

http://anewyou.com.ph/images/static/selector/selector-title.gif

- Do you want to be a budding baker?
- How about a shutter bug?
- Or maybe a shopping pro?
- Have you tried getting that beach babe bod in less than one month?
- Certified Rocker!!!
- Travel-savvy
- How yo be a corporate catch, instead?

Just go to this website >>> Anewyou
and choose what you want to be in less than 1 month (28 days to be exact!)

An intro-tutorial on the "A new you" website

Here are several goals available...

Then, follow the instructions on your online planner. What's great is, you get to have discounts in partner establishments after achieving your goals! For example, you chose the "Be a beach babe in 28 days." After the 28 days, you get to buy swimsuits at a discounted price! :)
