All for one, one for all - LBC Evolves

The famous phrase best describes the collective culture of the Filipinos. While others work hard to earn a living for themselves, the Filipino migrant workers do so with the thoughts of their loved ones in the back of their heads. With the current harsh economic conditions, the family-oriented Filipino has chosen to work far from home in regions that would provide better financial opportunities for their families. And it is through circumstances like this that padala evolved.
http://img691.imageshack.us/img691/6707/lbcevolution01.jpg
Every Filipino is familiar with the concept of pasalubong. A small gift from a parent to his child as he comes home from a work, a small token from the mall given to a family member or a souvenir from a relative or friend who came from a trip out of town are types of pasalubongs that we have received growing up. These gifts are simple ways of reminding a loved one how much he is appreciated. Recent times has caused families to live apart for financial reasons. Hence, pasalubong is not sufficient to meet their needs and padala has become a bigger part of the Filipino family.

Globe Super One for your Special One

When I first saw this in a TV commercial, I immediately thought about one thing - enrolling that significant other and yourself to the Globe Super One plan.

Someone I know, let's call him Sam, sends out an average of 300 SMS daily - all this is just an exchange of message between his girlfriend and him. On weekends, this goes up to 400 texts! As if Sam's mobile phone keypad isn't smokin' hot just yet, it doesn't stop there! Since the girl is usually out of town, Sam and his girlfriend talks an average of 1 to 2 hours a night!

A dependable Partner for your Financial Transactions

Businessmen, breadwinners, or simply another person trying to help out relatives always wonder if their money will reach their families and loved ones without any trouble and on time. In today’s world where Filipino families are spread apart, not only within the country but also overseas, a need for fast, safe and reliable remittance service arises.

No need to worry about allowing for a certain time period for money transfers, LBC will ensure that your money gets to your loved one as soon as you send it. Lorena’s experience is the best example when she needed to send her niece money in order for her to travel home. With the last bus leaving within 20 minutes, she rushed to a nearby LBC branch to transfer the needed funds for the trip. With LBCs helpful staff she was able to transfer, inform her niece of the tracking number and have her niece safely in the last bus home.

VAT On Toll Fees is Double Taxation

Got this from an E-mail:

VAT ON TOLL FEES IS DOUBLE TAXATION

The BIR Revenue Circular imposing a Value Added Tax of 12% on toll fees imposed on motorists using the expressways in North and South Luzon is DOUBLE TAXATION! Fmr. Congressman Rene Diaz, Chairman of Center for Strategic Initiatives said.  Toll fees are an imposition of government for the use of the expressways. Merriam Webster Dictionary defines toll: as a tax or fee paid for some liberty or privilege (as of passing over a highway or bridge). To impose a tax on a tax is double taxation Cong. Diaz said.

Nak Muay Thai Cuisine

http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/5782/nakee.jpg
Thai food has been close to my heart ever since I was a little kid. It was when I first learned how to eat spicy food as I had no choice when our family went there for a trip. Almost everything served to us was spicy. After that, I learned to appreciate spicy foods. In fact, I don't even feel the spiciness much anymore since I love it.

Specialty restaurants have been popping around town lately and Thai food is not an exception. A few years back, I attempted to open an Asian Cuisine type of fastfood but sadly, I wasn't experienced enough in the food industry. I am just an expert on eating, period. How can I not be an expert in eating out? I eat out an average of 5 to 8 times a week! (Photos of the Nak Muay Restaurant Interior, Exterior and Food Inside)

Success depends on the surroundings - Nestle

“The success of a business is tied up with the health of the society in which it operates” , says Antonio Meloto, the chairman and founder of Gawad Kalinga (GK).

The Creating Shared Value (CSV) forum opened discussions on how businesses can help improve societies by not seeing investments in social programs as cost but as opportunities to improve. Meloto, was invited to share his insights on how corporations and NGOs can work together to alleviate poverty and share his experience on how GK is able to create shared value between businesses, government, NGOs, and residents of GK villages.

A community cannot thrive without a source of wealth, job and income for its citizens. These are provided best by businesses which in turn cannot do well in a society filled with ignorance, criminality, poverty and ill health. With the help of those who can,  stronger, healthier communities like the GK villages help empower the poor because they are given a chance to can build homes, set up schools, start businesses, grow food, all the things you need for a thriving rural community. With these resources, they are more motivated to increase their income, live healthier lives, pursue an education, take care of their environment and their community.

Nestle Philippines is one of GK’s partners in building such communities. Their example should serve as an inspiration for companies to work with communities in building a stronger society that will overcome the challenges that the 21st century brings.

Building on the foundation of Corporate Social Responsibility and creating shared value

As consultant to major corporations, and co-author/author of several influential studies Mark Kramer, a Harvard professor and expert in philanthropy and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), persuades companies to build their business strategies that would not only bring competitive advantage but also benefit the society. To do so, companies must stop viewing society and its sectors as obstacles but as opportunities that would allow for growth and success.

Invest in water, be showered with returns

How could one measure the benefits of investing in water? The Creating Shared Value (CSV) Forum held last April encouraged businesses to see water as a business investment that has the potential for a high rate of return.

Economic benefits of investing in water can be measured in terms of “time savings” according to the Asian Development Bank (ADB) report. The two types are: 1) Gains from lower morbidity and fewer deaths; and 2) Gains from spending less time and energy to fetch water. With access to water for drinking and hygiene, a population is able to improve its lifestyle, allowing for educational and economic growth.

Creating Shared Value: Enhancing society and improving profits simultaneously

The idea is to change the mentality of social programs as business costs to seeing them as opportunities to increase profitability while simultaneously helping society.

With this in mind, Nestlé Philippines with the Asian Development Bank, the Philippine Business for Social Progress and the Asian Institute of Management RVR Center for Social Responsibility organized the Creating Shared Value (CSV) Forum that was held last April 23, 2010 where topics regarding the Nutrition, Water and Rural Development were discussed by experts on their respective specialization. The forum’s main speaker, a Harvard professor and social responsibility expert named Mark Kramer, urged companies and society stakeholders such as governments, NGOs and aid agencies to work together for their mutual benefit claiming that both business and society are interdependent and one cannot thrive and succeed without the help of the other.

Money Summit & Wealth Expo 2010 - A Source of Financial Wealth

I had the privelege to attend the money expo and wealth summit seminar last July 2 and 3, 2010 and I can say that there is no better way to start the second half of 2010 than to attend the Money Summit & Wealth Expo!

http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/3631/iluvlearningmoneyexpowe.jpg

Within 2 days, experts shared to us the knowledge they had on their respective niches on how to build your wealth using multiple ways.

I already heard some of the speakers talk before and I was glad because my memory and motivation was once again reignited. Attending seminars and lectures won't make you more succesful than what you are already right now. It's what you do with the new found knowledge that matters.

I love attending seminars like these because I always love to learn new things. Just last summer, I attended a Real Estate Management class which was waaay out of my league (I am a graduate of an IT course) but, nevertheless, I gained a lot of knowledge.

The moment you stop learning, you start dying. Attend seminars quarterly. Even monthly if circumstances permit.

Looking forward to the next money summit and wealth expo! :)

Thanks to ILuvLearning and  Boy Kuripot for hosting the contest

3 Tips on Buying and Selling Online

Ever since 2002, I've been buying and selling online. I've tried and tested several online mediums to sell my items. Before, I've sold vaults, mobile phones, european plates and such.

Buying and selling online requires investigative skills and instincts. Low-life scammers are prowling everywhere and here are 3 tips that I can share with you guys to prevent such from happening:

Avida Land - Quality Projects that Last

Avida is celebrating their 20th year and in that 20 years, they created 682 hectares of idle land and turned it into communities for the Filipino to live on.
http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/14/avidaforever05.jpg
Not only in Luzon have they helped Filipinos but throughout the Philippines as they are now expanding and venturing into new areas like Visayas and Mindanao.

For every need comes a solution. This is why LBC is helping the education of OFWs' kids by ensuring that their tuition fee reaches them without any problems.

LBC has been helping Filipinos locally by their services and as their newest services, they are now helping OFWs overseas.

Here are some testimonials and experiences from real people.

Avida Land Corporation's Dasmarinas Project

Dasmarinas Cavite is considered to be one of the nearest city outside Metro Manila and because of the overpopulated Manila, most would consider living in the suburbs as they feel its safer and more peaceful.
http://img682.imageshack.us/img682/7572/avidadasmarinas06.jpg
As Dasmarinas is considered to be a developed suburb - you would definitely not miss urban essentials as hospitals, churches, schools, and malls are easily accessible. In fact, its never going to be a hassle to travel to and fro the Metro as expressways are expected to be completed and light rail transit to be extended in the South Area.

Retiring Foreigners Settling in Batangas

Batangas is considered to be a weekend getaway for most of us who live in the metro. With its beautiful beaches, best dive spots, majestic taal volcano and serene surroundings Batangas always makes it on top of the to-go places Whether its christmas break or just an ordinary weekend.
 http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/2357/avidabatangas02.jpg
This is probably one of the reasons why a lot of foreigners have been settling in Batangas when they retire. Thanks to Avida Land Corp., the affordable housing arm Ayala Land, the wish of finding this dream home in Batangas has come true.

Ascof Lagundi - Safe and Effective Against Coughs

Philippines being a tropical country has 2 seasons. Rainy season and the summer season. Just last May summer, we experienced the hottest temperature ever recorded here in the Philippines while the other parts of the world experienced humongous hail storms (insert post link here)

We are now entering the rainy season quarter of the year and because of weather changes, cough becomes more common.

Panciteria Lido - Not Your Usual Chinese Restaurant

If you think Chinese restaurants are all the same, think again. One of my favorite restaurants, Panciteria Lido , is a unique chinese restaurant.

Way back in the 90's when Lido Restaurant was still around Binondo China town, it was our favorite Sunday breakfast restaurant where other people, mostly chinese gathers and have breakfasts after their morning walk or jog. They grab a Pan De Sal sandwich paired up with Lido's famous Siphon-filtered coffee. Combine the 100 year old brewing method of syphoning with Lido's own special bean blend and the result is a full bodied cup of coffee with an exceptional aroma and an enticing flavour craved by the most discriminating coffee connoisseur. Their coffee is a customer favourite since it was introduced in 1994.
