How to Dig a Deeper Grave for the Philippines

Only 2 weeks to go before the voter registration ends.. Please, for the sake of our country, exercise your right to vote! Register to vote!

Believe me, leaving your work a day or 2 just to register to vote is more worth rather than the suffering we will all experience in a term of the wrongly elected president.

Haven't we learned our lessons yet? The more we don't vote, the more we dig a deeper grave for our country. Remember, this is our one and only country. Not only yours, not only mine. If we don't care because we think our country is a hopeless case, who will give a damn to care?

Let us not add up to the problem. The domino effect will surely hit you sooner or later. If even our leaders aren't united because of selfish ambitions and reasons, don't you think that we should be the example for them rather than waiting for them to act right? Let us stop blaming them and let us be the first right example.

Let them know that they aren't liked for what they did rather than kissing their asses because they are good to you.

Before voting, please make sure that your candidate is really qualified. Not only technically and legally but more importantly, competitively.

It doesn't mean that when everyone is doing it, it is right and vice versa. Listen to what those politicians are saying. Look at what they are doing. And finally, check out if they are doing what they are saying because these 3 are entirely different things.

So, please please please -- do register and vote so you would not be contributing to a deeper grave for our beloved Philippines. I already registered.

Also, this Friday, please support this cause -- it's a concert. To enter, just bring
donations for those affected by Typhoon Pepeng and Ondoy (Although not required, better if you have).

Attention. Know your rights. This is illegal.

Photo taken around Dec of 2007.

Do you know that officers are not allowed to group together in order to apprehend. They are not even allowed to stand together in groups of 2 or more.

This prevents those cops from intimidating the apprehended person and prevents them from asking bribes (usually larger, because there are 2 enforcers present.).

No politics in JDV and landoil review.

The Presidential Commission on Good Government on Tuesday assured that no politics is involved in the decision to review the behest loan case against Speaker Jose de Venecia and Landoil Resources Corp.

PCGG Chairman Camilo Sabio said the Landoil case was referred to the Office of the Solicitor General for action since records showed that de Venecia and Landoil had failed to comply with the compromise agreement they entered into with the government in July 1988.

In July 1987, PCGG filed a civil case against de Venecia and Landoil for a multi-million dollar behest loan during the administration of late strongman Ferdinand Marcos.

The commission said between 2001 and 2002, it discovered that Landoil reneged on the terms of the settlement.

It was not clear though why the case was not immediately referred to the OSG but records showed that demand letters were sent to Landoil.

Sabio said prior to the filing of the letter to the OSG, dated Nov. 22, 2007, the PCGG received several notices from groups of people saying that de Venecia has an outstanding case regarding Landoil.

43,000 regain Filipino citizenship

By EDU PUNAY

The Philippine Star

Some 43,000 former Filipino citizens have reacquired their Filipino citizenship in the past three years under the dual citizenship law, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) revealed Sunday.

Immigration Commissioner Marcelino Libanan said 28,400 applications for dual citizenship have been approved in various Philippine consulates abroad while some 14,479 were processed at the BI main office in Manila.

Former Filipinos who became American citizens topped the list of applicants whose dual citizenship were approved. Many Filipino-Canadians and Filipino-Australians have also reacquired Filipino citizenship.

"As a result, these former Pinoys are again enjoying their rights and privileges as citizens of the Philippines," stressed Libanan, a former congressman and one of the principal authors of Republic Act 9225 or the Citizenship Retention and Reacquisition Act.

It was in 2003 when Congress passed the act but the BI started processing applications only in April 2004 after Malacañang designated the bureau as the lead implementing agency of the law.

The dual citizenship law declares that former natural-born Filipinos who later became naturalized citizens of other countries have not lost their Philippine citizenship.

Libanan said the law was enacted in line with the thrust of President Arroyo’s administration to encourage former Filipinos who are now living abroad to return to the land of their birth and buy property or invest in business here.

Manuel Ferdinand Arbas, who heads the BI technical staff on dual citizenship, said his team receives an average of 15 applications for dual citizenship a day.
