According to ABS-CBN news, the Philippine National Police Traffic Management Group (PNP-TMG) on Monday halted 50 cars inside PNP headquarters in Camp Crame for violating the TMG's "no plate, no travel" policy.
Chief Superintendent Nicanor Bartolome, PNP spokesman, said some of the cars used colored plastic to cover their license plates while one vehicle owned by a mayor used a commemorative plate.
Bartolome said that license plates of first-time violators inside PNP headquarters will be removed while repeat violators could face administrative charges.
He said the TMG is intensifying its campaign against vehicles with no plates, plates with unauthorized covers, fake and stolen plates and unauthorized and expired plates to prevent the rising incidence of robberies and killings perpetrated by suspects using motor vehicles with no license plates.
According to this message posted in a forum, the TMG has apprehended 11,947 motor vehicles with no plates; 1,158 with tinted or colored plate covers; 38 with fake license plates and 146 with unauthorized or expired commemorative plates.
In Metro Manila, the TMG has already apprehended 59 motor vehicles without plate numbers since May 19 alone.
