An eye for an eye: Joanna Jesh Bus freak accident in EDSA

Joanna Jesh Bus
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has issued orders suspending the operations of two bus companies, whose units [Joanna Jesh Bus (TYG-660)] were involved in a freak road accident that burned a doctor to death along the Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) Quezon City, early Tuesday.

LTFRB chief Thompson Lantion said the suspension will be in place for 30 days pending investigation of the accident that killed one and injured three others.

Lantion also ordered the owners and operators of Joanna Jesh Bus (TYG-660), Amtrak Transport Inc. (TYF-868) and Commuters Bus Corporation (TXE-812) to appear before the LTFRB investigation on the accident.
My personal opinion about this freak accident

Sometimes, as a private motorist, there is no other way to complain because no one really hears you out. I've been personally involved in a collision wherein my sidemirror was damaged (at least). The bus simply ran away. After that incident, I now have a baseball bat at my side if ever such incident happens again.

I can't put to words how I hate those bus drivers (yes, in general) They swerve from left to right irresponsibly and abuse their power. They have a bus lane (Yellow lane in EDSA) and yet, they still swerve in OUR lanes. How selfish can one be!? There should be a rule that if a bus enters the private lane, you can hit him with a baseball bat!

They use their size to threaten smaller vehicles. They race each other and what happens when they cause accidents? They say sorry, they didn't mean it etc.. WTF right? That's just plain BS man!

We all know that the owner of the bus company didn't intend to do that but, they are responsible for the drivers they hire. They should be at least aware that they are carrying passengers using large vehicles that can cause serious accidents. It's a ticking time bomb when drove by a stupid driver.

A good man was killed by that freak accident just yesterday. Now what? I'd rather have lost that bus driver than a man who can contribute something to the society. If we can just exchange their lives...

Death penalty to the driver who caused that accident. An eye for an eye should be imposed to discipline those unruly PUV drivers.

RIP to a good man, Dr. Sarabia. My prayers goes to you.

UPDATES===

I salute secretary Leandro Mendoza for suspending Amtrak and Joanna Jesh (both bus companies owned by the same company). They must all suffer as a team and company for their actions. This way, they will discipline each other.

They pick up passengers, leave their lanes and cut in front to get ahead of other bus without them thinking that they are obstructing traffic by parking in a slanting position.. tsktsk..

right on about those bus drivers hogging all the lanes just to get ahead of other buses! it's been a problem for a very very long time and i don't know why the MMDA can't do anything about it.

that bus driver should be put to jail. The sad part is some operators protect their drivers as well. My brother's car was once hit by a commuter bus but we didn't get any money from the operator.

@ Calvin,

I know! They have all the power to discipline those bus drivers and yet, all they implement is the yellow lane and the pink fences.

I hope they resolve the problems ASAP or more lives would just be put to waste.

@ badet,

Also true, the operators protect their drivers to the extent that those drivers abuse their operators trust.

It's a good thing that the driver who caused the accident, other drivers of Joanna Jesh and Amtrak and the operator and their sister company are all suspended. This way, they will discipline each other to prevent future suspensions.

Hope your brother was not hurt. Tell him to bring a baseball bat too. lets build a baseball-bat-bus-hitting club. kidding :P

If our commuting population didn't need buses and other public transport, it'd have been great to get rid of them altogether. But i strongly agree that these public utility drivers should be regulated very very strictly regulated by a government team that heavily screens and tests their driving skills, and mental capacity. Being a public utility driver should be treated with the same strictness as you would in hiring a lawyer or choosing a doctor or any other job where you'd screen and test before giving them the keys.

I can't help be paranoid about driving the streets with these idiots on the road hugely posing a threat to everyone else out there.

Hey BF, ive always admired your strength and will with regards to implementing change in whatever project you undertake, wouldn't it be great to become the ONLY goverment official to start a revolution and govern, limit, or at least very very strictly regulate the privilege of driving public utility vehicles? I say privilege since it's a job that's got a direct impact on people's lives, whether they cause huge accidents, small scrapes on our expensive cars, or run over your kids heading to school, or do what they're supposed to do and properly ferry passengers from point a to b.

What say you?

Hi Chef Tonio, I agree with every word you said as I share the very same sentiment about these buses. I'm just wondering how the Filipino people is able to tolerate these behavior day in and day out.

I just wanna share my very BAD experience while ridding this bus. I guess they havent learned their lesson yet.

Two hours ago I rode this Joanna Jesh bus (UE LETRE-route) with plate number TYZ 228 I boarded from East Ave. I noticed the unbearable swerving and reckless driving of its driver (we're literally swinging)

I only had the chance to go down in Munoz even if I wasn't even halfway my destination (and ofcourse I already paid for the whole trip). I just can't risk my own safety for something unworthy. I'm never gonna ride this bus again. I swear! Even if it's the only bus on a rush hour. Be careful guys!

@Anon1,

Hi. I informed MMDA about your complaint. I hope they do something.

Glad you're okay though.

Thanks Chef Tonio and more power to you! I do hope MMDA will act on it because actually they can see it on their so called "CCTV Camera" that's if their eyes are open when that bus passed by.

By the way, another bus accident happened this morning and sadly it is a former colleague who died on it. One of the nicest guy I've worked with died because of the recklessness of these drivers. Another life got wasted... I really hope he'll get justice for this.

Rest in peace Calix, you'll be missed... Thanks again Chef Tonio! God bless!

Sad to hear people die because of these undisciplined drivers driving huge vehicles. Something must be really done to prevent such from happening again.

Paging MMDA.
