After our Scenic Kuranda tour, we walked towards the Tjapukai grounds. It was a few minutes past 2 in the afternoon and we were early for their afternoon show that starts around 230.
Since some were not able to eat lunch, we waited for them to finish before entering the premises. We headed to the performing area and sat in the front row since we wanted to have an unobstructed view when they start to perform.
I must admit, most of the audience were more mature people, but there were a few kids who were present as well.
For the next 2 hours, we were immersed with Australia's Aboriginal culture. How they used boomerang and spears as weapons for self-defense and hunting, tree leaves as medicine alternatives and a lot more. We shopped for boomerang and some souvenirs (a.k.a. Magnets for me!!!) before leaving Tjapukai and boarding the bus that would drive us back to our hotel. (Honeslty speaking, I didn't like Tjapukai very much because it was very commercialized. No offense to the guys who performed but they were really good.)
If you want to watch some of the shows they performed in Tjapukai, here's a Youtube video:
(This was done in a more natural setting. Ours was done inside a restaurant.)
Ever tried a RedBull Gelato? Only here in Cairns! |
We asked our bus driver to drop us near the shopping area of our hotel and we took an ice cream break before we did another set of souvenir shopping. The items here were more or less the same, you just have to have the bargaining skills to be able get the best buy. We went to various surf shops as well - goods like Ripcurl, Roxy, Quicksilver, and Billabong are cheaper here as australia is a famous surf place.
Where most of our time was spent that night |
After much walking, we decided to have dinner at a chinese restaurant because we missed rice badly (and the owner gave us unlimited rice after much request). It was a semi-fine dining place and only a few people were eating. Food was great and we enjoyed every single dish. All their staffs were chinese - I guess that's the reason why it has the authentic chinese taste.
