Solution for your Parallel Parking Woes

Admit it. One of the problems when you first learned to drive was parking (Also, hanging for manual vehicles). Sweat running down your head and sweaty palms mark your steering wheel as you park. We all went through that phase before but maybe not anymore. Automobile manufacturers, particularly the high end ones developed a parking assist system to assist anyone having a hard time parking. I haven't tried one so I can't say if it's really accurate and effective. A year ago, I first heard this feature come out in the Mercedes Benz B class series. Today, more and more models, even the not so high end ones has this feature too!

Here are some videos from different manufacturers like Benz, BMW, Audi, Ford and even Kia!

Mercedes Benz CLS Self Parking Video:

BMW 5 Series Parking Assistant Demo:

You can finally say and shout, "Look Ma! No hands!"
Ford Escape 2012 Active Park Assist Video:

And just recently, even the more consumer friendly Kia Sportage got the feature too! I wonder if that feature will also be available here in the Philippines since dealers usually strip the vehicles feature down to basic to lower the price since pinoys are price sensitive.

Will the sensor sense holes / canals below?
I was wondering if these system can detect holes? They might be able to detect what's beside, in front or at the back of them but what about holes and maybe canals? Just a thought. Well, a more realistic challenge is, if these parking assist systems will flawlessly pass Binondo's parallel parking challenges. We'll see.
