Sonya's Garden - A Relaxing Lunch Experience

After a heavy breakfast and some errands from the nearby town of Alfonso, we decided to have lunch before heading back to Manila.

As we're thinking of the new (but healthy) restaurants to try, the classic Sonya’s Garden came to mind. I quickly looked for their telephone in the internet and called to check if they still serve lunch as it was almost 1pm on a Monday. It was nice to know that they serve lunch until 4pm!

Since wife has never been there and I haven’t eaten there for years, we decided to proceed to Sonya’s for our healthy lunch. Royale Tagaytay would be the best landmark as you will be turning right to a small street immediately after Royale's entrance. It took us around 3-5 minutes drive before finally seeing the gate of the “secret garden” as many people would call it.

Parking was not a problem as there was enough space for everyone since it's a Monday and even though there were only a few shaded parking areas, it didn’t stop people from coming and enjoying the nice homey and relaxing ambiance that Sonya’s Garden has.

Upon reaching the reception area, we were escorted by their friendly staff down the dining hall. They served us fresh Dalandan Juice which is my favorite drink there and is one of the reasons that I love eating there.

Our starter salad are actually handpicked from their garden. Various fruits/garnishing to top the greens and of course, it will never be complete without the secret salad dressing sprinkled with grated parmesan cheese.

Freshly made bread was then served with 6 dips. We couldn’t even remember all the names of them but I loved the white cheese most.

Our tummies were already half-filled when the staff approached us and cleared our greens – we are now ready for our pasta. We were served with 2 kinds of sauce – tomato and chicken cream. Toppings include shitake mushrooms, ratatouille, black olives, capers and salmon belly. It was just too good that even with half-fulled stomachs, we tried to eat as much as we can.

Staffs are very attentive as they would know that you are already done with your meal. My wife was very much looking forward to the sweet treats even though we were both bloated by this time. A small piece of chocolate cake, glazed sweet potato and banana rolls were served with a cup of hot water with mint leaves. Even though I promised not to eat too much, I couldn’t help but take a few bites of the glazed sweet potato after my wife persuaded me as it was really good.

What I love about the place is that even though it is a restaurant, they made sure that the “garden ambiance” is maintained. It's like eating inside a greenhouse and even though the weather outside was hot, diners could still enjoy a cool and cozy ambiance in the dining hall with the cooling systems that they have set-up. It was around 3pm when we finally decided that we had to go to avoid the rush hour when we head back to Manila, to our surprise, there are still a few people coming in to have their late lunch. We’re definitely coming back to Sonya’s Garden in our next Tagaytay trip, probably earlier so that we could get to tour around the garden and have a foot spa pampering before indulging in their healthy food.
