Grand Tribute for Teachers by PLDT Gabay Guro ~ Cheftonio's Blog

According to Henry Adams, "A teacher affects eternity: he can never tell where his influence stops." Honestly, teachers are one of the most unappreciated and most respected jobs in the world. This year, PLDT Gabay Guro gave teachers the biggest and grandest teacher's month tribute to them.

Over 20,000 teachers from all over the country gathered as PLDT Gabay Guro (2G), the teacher advocacy group of the PLDT - Smart Foundation and PLDT Managers' Club Inc celebrated the National Teachers' Month at the SM Mall of Asia Arena last October 5. A concert was also held there featuring well-known artists like Ogie Alcasid, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, Derek Ramsey, Jonalyn Viray, Dulce, Rachel Alejandro, Manilyn Reynes, Jessa, Dingdong Avanzado, Iya Villania, Alice Dixson, and many more.

2G supports teachers and students who wants to take up teaching as a profession. To date, it has awarded around 1,000 scholarship grants to aspiring teachers. This year, 2G and PLDT launched a scholarship program for children and dependents of OFWs and donated 28 classrooms in various public schools in the Philippines. According to 2G,

All of 2G efforts are aligned with its six pillars, which are: Teachers’ Training that presents new modules on Emotional Intelligence and IT Literacy and Sustainability; Housing and Educational Facilities; Livelihood Programs; Broadbanding and Computerization of Schools; and Teachers’ Tribute, highlighted by the 2G Grand Gathering.

That day, they also held a GRAND raffle and according to the event organizers, here are the stuff they gave away,

The Grand Gathering this year will also feature the biggest raffle draws, with substantial major prizes that include a house and lot from Camella Homes, a brand new HAIMA car from Laus Group of Companies, an APE Piaggo three-wing van from Auto Italia, 10 PLDT KaAsenso Cyberya Internet Café setups, Retailer Phone Kits and Sims from Smart and Sun, and cash prizes.

PLDT gave away 10 internet cafe setups! Other than the monetary value of the actual prize, the winners of these kaAsenso Cyberya will get the chance to earn more than what they get. A perfect example of the adage,

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.

It's not the first time I've heard of that Cyberya thing but will surely dig deeper on what that machine can do.
