Breaking News: Manny Villar resigns as Senate President

Breaking News: Manny Villar resigns as Senate President

Juan Ponce Enrile is the new Senate President.

Ex-Senate President, Manny Villar's statements:

"My dear colleagues in this august chamber, the tenure of the Senate President - as everyone knows - depends on the number of members that supports him or her. I was informed this afternoon I no longer have the support of majority of my colleagues. I therefore tender my
resignation and congratulate the new senate President, honorable Juan Ponce Enrile,"

"You have my support in seeing to it this chamber continue maintain its unquestionable independence and solid reputation,

"I shall now have more time to be with the people in the countryside and with my family,"
Another agenda that I am thinking of on why he resigned is that he might have plans on running as a president in the next presidential elections.. or does he have already?

According to GMA news website,

Translation (not word per word):
Vice President Noli De Castro is still the Presidential preference of the Filipino people according to the Pulse Asia survey.

Also, Ex-Senate president Manny Villar's preference is at 17%, 5% more compared to Ex-Philippine President, Joseph Ejercito Estrada.
I wonder if Arroyo has something to do with this. Is this part of the Fertilizer fund scam? Is she hiding something? Something like an information that could expose her that's why he placed a Pro-Arroyo (JPE) as the new Senate President?

More updates about this in awhile!

Alleged Magdalo nabbed before flying to Detroit

A soldier linked to last week's standoff in Makati City was arrested while trying to take a flight to the United States before dawn Wednesday.

Director Gen. Avelino Razon Jr, Philippine National Police chief, said Pfc. Alvin Celestino of the military's Civil Relations Group was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1.

"Nahuli siya sa NAIA while attempting to leave for Detroit (He was arrested while attempting to leave for Detroit)," Razon said on dzBB radio.

He said police and military personnel at a NAIA checkpoint found a Northwest Airlines ticket and a working visa in Celestino's possession.

A separate dzBB report quoted the Armed Forces of the Philippines hierarchy as saying that Celestino was flagged because he had no travel authority.

The AFP said Celestino, who is now undergoing interrogation, was one of the men who escaped from last week's incident along with Marine Capt. Nicanor Faeldon.

House of representatives bombing - nov 13 2007

House Speaker Jose De Venecia condemned the "cowardly and dastartdly act." The Speaker ordered a clean sweep of the Batasan Complex to prepare for the regular session tomorrow afternoon.

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo ordered the police to investigate the incident and to "submit periodic reports as warranted."

The blast was the first ever bomb explosion inside the premises of the Philippine Parliament.

After the blast, Metro Manila and the Senate were placed under full red alert by the police.

Youth and student groups immediately held an indignation rally around 9:30 pm at the nearby UP Diliman campus. Youth groups also offered candles and prayers for the victims of the bombing.

The explosion was the second major blast which occurred in Metro Manila in less than a month. The first explosion damaged the Glorietta shopping mall last October 19 which killed eleven people and injured a hundred shoppers.

Police authorities are appealing to the public to refrain from spreading wrong information and unfounded theories about the deadly explosion.

Speaker De Venecia assured the people that Congress will not be deterred by the bomb explosion by continuing with its legislative duties in the next few days.

Australian abused in South of Negros Occidental.

BACOLOD City: A known leader of a sugar planters group sought Gov. Joseph Maraons intervention on the alleged harassment committed by a foreigner who owns a private island resort in Barangay Tiling Cauayan South of Negros Occidental, reported the Panay News on Wednesday.

In his letter to the governor, sugar planter Manuel R. Lamata claimed that on October 30, 14 soldiers belonging to the 61st Infantry Battalion based in Barangay Tiling Cauayan led by a certain Col. Basco indiscriminately fired their M-16s despite the election gun ban.

The group is said to be escorts of the Hautea and Tongoy families, as well as Australian Peter Zewitsky, said to be the owner of Pitogo Island.

The said shooting incident caused alarm among residents of the coastal community, as the indiscriminate firing continued until November 1, said Lamata, adding that he saw the Australian citizen and his companion Raul Hautea firing the M-16 towards the water. The soldiers just watched and did nothing.

A Mr. Claude Schulze said he, his family and some guests went near the island to fish, confirmed having heard shots that sent them diving for cover. Schulze and his group decided to pack and return to Bacolod.

Lamata added this was not the first time the incident happened, which has stirred fear in the coastal community, reason enough to seek the governors intervention.

Gov't men deny abducting 8-year-old girl in Cebu

EBU CITY - Police, military and local officials of Tuburan town are refuting claims of a militant group about an alleged abduction of an eight-year-old girl.

A throng of witnesses from Tuburan trooped to the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) in Cebu City yesterday to dispute a report published in a national daily and aired over a local radio station.

The published report stated that the Kilusang Mambubukid ng Pilipinas claimed the girl was abducted on Oct. 16 after her classes ended at the Mag-alwa Elementary School in the northwest town, some 96 kilometers from Cebu City.

The girl was reportedly subjected to tactical interrogation on the whereabouts of her parents, who are suspected members of the New People’s Army.

Officials cried foul over the reports, saying it was one sided and did not publish the truth about what happened.

They denied the girl was subjected to severe tactical interrogation that caused psychological trauma.
