THE Land Transportation Office has ordered the seizure of all vehicles bearing the “Binay 2010” commemorative plates, saying those are illegal.
Agency chief Reynaldo Berroya said his office allowed only eight characters and alpha numerics on every license plate, but the Binay 2010 plates had nine digits.
“Plates with nine digits are not allowed,” Berroya said, adding the Binay plates were not even among eight commemorative plates that his agency had issued as of Jan. 15, and which could be used only for a year.
The plates are being distributed allegedly to push Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay’s candidacy for president in 2010. He is said to be one of the opposition’s possible presidential bets in the 2010 elections.
Binay insisted yesterday that he was not responsible for the distribution of the plates in question. Read the entire story here.
