Delicious Taiwanese Snack Place in Manila | Pao Pao Xiao Chi

Pao Pao's Candy Colored Facade
One lazy Saturday morning, the kind of Saturday where you just want to relax, eat and unwind, we were invited to try out one of the most famous snack places for Xaverians/ Icans and now, for Judenites too! (..and soon, the entire Metro Manila maybe?)  Located in Barangay Little Baguio in San Juan City (Gen De Jesus corner Gen Lim Street), a candy colored place will welcome you into their cozy restaurant -- Pao Pao Xiao Chi.

Pao Pao Loyalty Card
Pao Pao, actually means "very full" and Xiao Chi means "snacks". True to their word, I was surprised to discover that aside from milk teas, they offer a variety of drinks and snacks that will really fill you up to your tummy's limit!

Pao Pao's Pearl Milk Tea -- A must try!
A line up of Milk Teas Waiting to be consumed
My default order on shops that serve Milk Tea would be the Pearl Milk Tea. My photos won't do justice to the actual drink. You really have to try them to know what I'm talking about. Fruit teas are also  served here in Pao Pao. They are made from green tea and pureed fruits.

Add-on toppings for your Pao Pao Drinks
Personalize your drinks with add-on toppings like Nata, Coffee Jelly, Pearls, Lemon Jelly, Almond Jelly and a variety of Pudding including Mango, Egg, Chocolate and Strawberry.

Red Chili, a must try but be warned -- It's really good yet really spicy!
Create your own flavor. Have it Spicy, sweet or both. Satisfy your own taste buds! Unlike a similar Taiwanese snack store, you have a wider variety of choices here -- Choose from Red Chili, Yellow Curry, Kimchi, Wasabi, Black Sesame, Green Tea, Lemon, Seaweeds and Orange. Haven't tried all but I've tried Red Chili, Yellow Curry and Wasabi. You can now tell that I love spicy food!

Snacks are packed in a ready-to-eat manner
They also have rice meals and noodles to satisfy your hunger. Prepare your eyes and check out some of the authentic Taiwanese snacks Pao Pao has to offer,

Spicy Pork with Rice | Php 70
Special Dry Noodles | Php 100
Beef Brisket Rice | Php 105
Lu Rou Rice | Php 60
Spareribs Taosi Rice | Php 100
Spicy Squid | Php 50
Spicy Chicken | Php 50
Fried Shrimp Wanton | Php 120

Steamed Pork Dumpling | Php 80
Pao Pao's Latest food item -- Glazed Potatoes. Don't leave Pao Pao w/out ordering this!
My regular order would be the Spicy pork with rice. I usually sprinkle a lot of red chili powder until I literally inhale some and eventually sneeze. Another favorite is the Fried Wanton and Steamed Pork Dumpling. You won't believe when I tell you that my tummy is actually grumbling now, as I write this and it's just an hour after a heavy lunch!

On my next few visits, I'll try out the Lu Rou Rice, Special Dry Noodles and the Beef Brisket Rice. I can't wait! Be warned though that their food is really addicting AND affordable. Their food contains a 'secret ingredient' that's actually imported.

Love to drink while enjoying your food? Here are some of the refreshments that they serve:
Taro Milk Tea | Php 50
Strawberry Fruit Tea | Php 50
Green Apple Fruit Tea | Php 45
Kiwi Fruit Tea | Php 45

As mentioned above, my default drink would be the Pearl Milk Tea but I've also tried the other drinks and fruit teas. The Strawberry Fruit Tea has Strawberry bits! Make sure that you request your drink to have less ice so that when the ice melts, the water won't overpower the flavor of the fruit tea. The best seller according to them is the Taro Milk Tea. I'm not a Taro lover that's why I wasn't able to try it.

They also make their own Pearls and Puddings! This is why you won't find a similar store serving the quality pearls that they have. I told you, try it to know it.

Here's Pao Pao's Menu --

Quality, delicious and affordable. What more can you ask for? These are the criteria that make up a good and satisfying restaurant! More power to Pao Pao Xiao Chi and hoping for many more branches to come! (They are also open for franchising opportunities. Call 497-7244)
