No, they are not launching a new category of postpaid or prepaid service. This announcement is part of their commitment in supporting sports, and in particular, one of the most popular sports here in the Philippines -- basketball. Having supported a lot of sports related events, brands, and even national teams like the Gilas Pilipinas. Just last July, Smart announced their all-star lineup from the NCAA league. This month, they announced the UAAP pool of sports ambassadors.

Smart's goal is to encourage young Filipinos to pursue their passions. This is also aligned with Smart's goal of pursuing Filipinos passion be it through music, films, sports, etc. The launch of the Smart Elite is just in time for tomorrow's opening of the UAAP season 78.
I was an avid follower of the UAAP and NCAA when I was still in college and this partnership rekindled my interest in watching again. Smart is awesome for supporting these talented sports men.
