Difference Between Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge (with Philippine price)

With the announcement (soon to be released in the Philippines, March 2016) of the newest phones from Samsung, here are the top 5 differences of the Samsung Galaxy S7 over the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge

1) The Edge
This is the most obvious difference. Coming from the S6 and the S6 Edge, the S7 Edge followed suit but the edge on the new S7 Edge is much rounder as opposed to the edge in the S6 Edge which was a bit hard to grip on as some angles will make you feel that it is too sharp for comfort. They fixed this in the new S7 Edge and it's a nice welcome upgrade.

In terms of functions, you can use the "edge" to quickly access your contacts, shortcut to apps, and other quick shortcuts. The best news about the S7 Edge is that they added third-party support so developers can develop and build functions to be used on the edge UX. Unlike the LG V10, the edge feature has yet to prove themselves useful because for now, the best they can do is shortcuts. Let's see what the third-party developers can do with this extra real estate.

2) Bigger Screen
Last year, Samsung made the S6 and the S6 Edge screen size similar, without the extra edge real estate. This year, they retained the S7 screen size at 5.1 inches but increased the S7 Edge screen size to 5.5 inch, similar to the iPhone 6 Plus and the iPhone 6s Plus.

Resolution-wise, both the S7 and the S7 Edge are the same Quad HD @ 534ppi. Since the S7 has a smaller screen, this just means that the S7 will slightly produce better quality images but this won't be easily recognizable. Both screens are producing impressive and accurate colors without over saturating them.

3) Bigger Battery
Comparing it to the S6 and the S6 Edge last year, both the S7 and the S7 Edge now has both bigger batteries BUT with S7 Edge having a bigger battery life compared to the S7. The S7 has 3,000mAh battery and the S7 Edge has the 3,600mAh battery life. Both of them are also equipped with fast charging technology.

Interested in wireless charging? I think it's just a novelty. Get ready to have longer charging times compared to plugging it directly to the USB cable charger. It's nice to have but I wasn't happy with it in just a weeks time.

In case you are interested, the iPhone 6s plus onlyhas 2,750mAh battery while the iPhone 6 Plus has 2,915mAh battery. Honestly, these are just numbers and will all boil down to real world usage. This will also depend on how efficient each of their processors are but in black and white, S7 Edge will definitely feel an advantage over battery life in all those above mentioned smartphones.

4) Premium Looks / Easier to Use
Even on the S6 and the S6 Edge, the latter looks more premium and elegant than the first one. It is still the same with the S7 and the S7 Edge. Although function-wise, they are very similar to each other. If you ask me though, the S6/ S7 will be easier to use over their "edge" counterparts. If you are having a hard time deciding which to get, this is a big factor to consider other than the differences mentioned in this post. Either you go for looks or comfort.
