Retired general warns of unrest if Trillanes not proclaimed.

In a press conference, retired general Raul Urgello said that there was no reason for the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to further delay the proclamation of the former Navy junior officer as the 11th place winner in the senatorial race as his lead is mathematically insurmountable at this point by Koko Pimentel in 12th even more so by Miguel Zubiri in 13th place.

If the administration is bent on reaching national unity then we should follow the will of the people and proclaim Antonio Trillanes IV as the 11th senator of the country, said Urgello. Otherwise this might lead to an outrage not only from the people, but also from the rank-and-file soldiers who voted for him. He added that further delay in the proclamation of Trillanes could have serious consequences especially in the peoples trust in the government and the countrys electoral system.

The Comelec official tally as of Monday showed Trillanes with 11,093,463 votes, Pimentel, 10,809,232, and Zubiri with 10,697,825 votes.

Pimentel, who has a narrow lead against Zubiri, said that there are no more legal nor mathematical grounds to withhold Trillanes proclamation.

No matter how we look at it the reason for the delay is not legal, not mathematical but something else; maybe there is a plan to sabotage his proclamation, Pimentel said.

Meanwhile, Comelec Chairman Benjamin Abalos said that it was still possible for Trillanes to lose his bid for one of the 12 seats for the race to the Senate.

The Comelec, sitting as the national board of canvassers, is yet to tally the certificates of canvass from the provinces of Surigao del Norte and Maguindanao, both in Southern Mindanao region.

Urgello said that the election of Trillanes created a problem for the Arroyo administration and even the military leadership, especially on the issue of graft and corruption within the ranks, citing Trillanes earlier statement that the AFP chief, Gen. Hermogenes Esperon, ordered the soldiers to vote for administration candidates, an allegation the latter denied.

There was supposed to be a command vote but the rank and file voted against it, which mean they share the same sentiment with Trillanes and this is tantamount to someone losing control over his men, he said.

On Tuesday the AFP Civil Relations Service admitted conducting a survey among the soldiers about the probable election of Trillanes to the Senate.

On the other hand, Sen. Rodolfo Biazon said, Based on their canvassing, Trillanes is winning by as much as 200,000 to 300,000 votes over Pimentel and Zubiri, so why cant Abalos expedite the matter for the sake of the people?

I heard from somewhere that, Trillanes would initiate to impeach GMA. if he had said this before, im sure he would not win. our country is doing good these past few weeks so, who wants someone like him to destabilize our country again??

Trillanes, do your job as a senator. pass laws. not impeach here, impeach there, coup de tat here and there. even Gringo Honasan doesnt like what you said.
