Started in November 2008, the program has been giving scholarship grants to female college students enrolled in male-dominated courses like Engineering and Architecture. 30 scholars from University of the Philippines and 10 from Polytechnic University of the Philippines are chosen each school year. To date, they now have around 96 scholars and 10 of the Cream Silk scholars have graduated last March from PUP.
Venus Raj, newest Cream Silk brand ambassador and an empowered Filipina who defied the odds with her confidence and determination. She was also a scholar before and she revealed to us that she has only 1 set of uniform while she was studying. Her mom has to wash her uniform everytime she goes home from school so she can wear her uniform again the next day.
Venus Raj grew up in Camarines Sur (Famous for the Camsur Water Complex), where she lived in a nipa hut, locally knowned as "Bahay Kubo" without electricity. At 17, she would join beauty pageants and used the prize money to help her parents make ends meet.
