Tested! Blaupunkt CN-112 Active Noise Cancelling Headphones

A few months back, we visited Balesin island in Quezon, an exclusive resort operated by Alphaland. Going to and from the island located by Quezon's Lamon bay is just 25 minutes via plane ride. To date, no commercial flights go there so the only way to fly to the island is via your own private plane or via one of Alphaland's helicopter or plane.

If huge jumbo jets can be noisy, smaller planes, specially the propeller ones can be even noisier because of your proximity to the main engines. This is not my first time to ride a plane like this so I got ready -- I brought along the Blaupunkt CN-112 active noise cancelling headphones and this is the perfect scenario to test out the noise cancellation feature of the headphones!

Upon boarding depending on the time of your departure, you can wait in the tarmac for around 15 minutes (if you depart early in the morning) to as long as an hour (rush hour) before take off as you need clearance from the aviation authorities. Engine noise even without taking off yet can be numbingly deafening because of the constant humming of the engine. Gladly, my 60s rock music drowned off much of the revving engine noise.

Above is a video of the sound of the engine noise, but times 100x this recording recorded! Only hearing very slight engine noise and the crisp music plus soft bass, I removed my Blaupunkt noise cancelling headphones and wow! It was noisy without them on! Imagine being in a theater with a little ambient sound but where you can still very much enjoy the clear and crisp music. That's what it felt using the CN-112 from Blaupunkt. As I removed it, it was like putting your ears beside a noisy generator machine! You could not even clearly hear from the person beside you!

What's in the Box:

  • 1 x Blaupunkt CN-112 Comfort Headphones
  • 1 x Carrying box
  • 1 x Cabin adaptor
  • 1 x 3.5 mm > 6.3 mm adaptor
Design wise, you can evidently see that my headphones are way better looking than the one the pilot was using! Clean and straight out design, some of the plastic parts won't feel cheap at all because of the glossy black paint and this is not a fingerprint magnet.

Product Dimensions: 21.5 x 11 x 26 cm ; 898 g

Overall, these headphones are really competitive in terms of pricing and very comfortable as well. It might look bulky but it's light and versatile. Powered by 2 AAA batteries, you can still fully enjoy it without batteries as you can opt to not use the noise cancellation feature by switching it off. This headphone cannot 100% keep the noise out. No one noise cancellation headphone can! But for plane rides including the levels of propeller planes (and generator machines), I can definitely say that this is a must-have for travelers and those who love to keep noise out and fully enjoy what they are listening to. Highly recommended!
