iPhone 6 Plus vs iPhone 6S Plus (Actual Experience and Available Plans)

Ever since the iPhone 6 Plus was released last year, I made the jump from the usual 5" iPhone 5s to try the 5.5" 6 Plus. And it was the best decision ever. Now, I can't imagine myself using a phone with a smaller screen because I'm so used to it already. If you currently have the iPhone 6 Plus, is it worth the upgrade to the iPhone 6S Plus? Check out the differences between the 6 Plus and the 6S Plus.

iPhone 6 Plus vs iPhone 6S Plus: Physical Differences

The difference between the iPhone 6 Plus and the iPhone 6S Plus isn't evident on the front facia (L-R: 6S Plus - 6 Plus)
So far, no difference between the two. (Top: 6S Plus)
The two phones are also identical on the right side of it where the power button and the SIM tray is. (Top: 6S Plus)
On the left side portion, it still looks the same. (Top: 6S Plus)
Very slight difference on the camera lens cover. The 6S (on top) has a darker lens cover.
The difference will only be evident at the back. The 6S (on top) has the "S" marking. That's it.
As for the case, I have tried using two cases so far and it fit both phones. One is the Tech21 clear case and the other is the Thule Gauntlet case for the iPhone 6 Plus. The Thule is a hard case so I would guess that all the cases for the 6 Plus would most probably fit the newer 6S Plus as well.

Difference of the iPhone 6 Plus and the iPhone 6S Plus in terms of specifications

As you can see, it's just bigger by 0.01 inches. That is almost immaterial. This is also the reason why I said before that the cases for the 6 Plus fits the 6S Plus (99% of the time). Same resolution and ppi for both, same storage capacity options, and same lightning port. The difference would be the A9 chip (previously A8), 2GB RAM (previously 1GB), more LTE network compatibility, 12MP camera (from 8MP), 4.2 Bluetooth (from 4.0), and a faster fingerprint response sensor. For the battery life, I cannot say yet.

Difference between the 6S Plus and 6 Plus: Actual Experience
In terms of weight, I felt the 0.70 ounce difference. Although I'm not complaining because it's just a wee bit heavier, I'm just saying I felt the difference. I tried lifting both before actually seeing the spec sheet. For the processor upgrade, I haven't tested it thoroughly yet and I'm not sure if I will be able to feel the difference.

Something immediately noticeable would be the response time of the fingerprint sensor. It's lightning quick! Check out my Instagram video here: https://instagram.com/p/9a9bDnvfn4/?taken-by=aqc. Another would be the new taptic engine on the 6S (vibrate). It's more quiet but just as strong. You’ll also see a new default vibration options.

So, would you upgrade? If you have the extra money and you want to, go ahead. If not, you have a reason not to since the difference is not that big of a deal. And because of that reason, you now have the option to upgrade to the (supposedly) marked down iPhone 6 Plus. If you are coming from iPhone 5S and below, you now have a good reason to upgrade.

Philippine launch date of the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus
Announced launch date is November 6, 2015. It will be available in Smart by then. They haven't announced the plans yet but we have a hunch that it will be the same plans used last year. We are just not sure on the cash out but as always, basing it on the trends from the previous years, Smart has been releasing the most competitive plans. The best plan to go with your iPhone would be the Plan 2000 as it has 10GB of data! Other plan inclusions are 150 minutes of calls to all networks, 200 SMS to all networks, and a FREE app for the month (Which you can change monthly, depending on your needs)

Right now, you can only pre-order: http://smart.com.ph/Postpaid/iphone6s
For the iPhone Plans, check out your options here: http://smart.com.ph/Postpaid/plans/iphone-plan/

Stay tuned for updates with regards to subsidized plans.
