Stats to make us feel more secure? anything undeclared?

The Philippine National Police (PNP) yesterday reported a seven percent drop in the average monthly crime rate for the first semester of 2007 as compared to the same period in 2006.

The PNP cited the effective implementation of several community-based crime prevention programs for the continuous downward trend of crime incidents in the country.

The latest PNP figures on average monthly crime rate showed that there are 6.54 crime incidents happening for every 100,000 population.

Chief Supt. Samuel Pagdilao, PNP spokesman, said that during the past seven months of 2007, the PNP recorded a Total Crime Volume (TCV) of 39,261 crime incidents.

This is what they declared. how about those not-reported? how about those involving officers? extortion? black mail?

Those stats are just announced to make Filipinos feel more secure, but really, 6 percent drop is not enough.
