New Modus Operandi: Ketchup Gang

Recently, I’ve been hearing a couple of modus operandi snatchers use nowadays. This happened to a friend of a friend so the actual story might have deviated a bit, but fact remains, all of us commuters should be aware and be very careful with our belongings.

As the student victim was riding the LRT, he noticed a couple of kids running around with a ketchup bottle. Little did he know that he was the prime target of these kids as they might have noticed that he was carrying a laptop on his back. As the kids were playing with the bottle, they accidentally sprayed it onto the clothes of the victim. Sure enough, all of the kids (around 4 perhaps) surrounded the victim and started to clean the side of his shirt. The victim, who is now concentrating on removing the stain on his shirt, was not aware that the suspects are already getting his laptop and his belongings. It was too late when the victim realized that his bag has gone much lighter and yes, in a matter of seconds, the suspects were able to get-off the train and got away with their crime.

As I slowly analyze the incident, there were a few questions in mind and a few realizations about the crime. Suspects got off too quickly probably because they prepared for their target and the timing – to do the act a minute before they reach a station so they could immediately get off with they belongings that they stole and it will be too late when the victim will be calling for help. I find it also unusual that the other commuters weren’t able to see the suspects stealing but this is probably because they might have more people involved other than those prime suspects who were playing with the ketchup. It also got me thinking that maybe when the victim is seated, suspects would not have been able to pursue him because they couldn’t surround him and take his belongings… nonetheless, we should always be aware of our surroundings and be mindful of our belongings, especially when someone tries to steal our attention.

I don't know what their gang name is but this might be another version of salisi gang. One thing's for sure -- they will be dancing the ketchup dance now but God will deal with them later on.

it's a new variation on the spit & snatch previously done on jeepneys. target gets spat on by one member, another member takes out a hankie, goes on a wiping spree and lifts the goods.

There was this modus, Some one will stick a gum on your back then they'll try to help you. then the other one (Accomplice) will get your cellphone! Arghh.. I always regret not punching their faces! ARGHH
