What is the Peace Boat about?
The "Peace Boat" is a Japanese organization that has been traveling around the world in a cruise ship on peace missions. Because of the recent disaster in their country, they have converted the ship to a vessel for relief goods from various ports they dock at on their way back to Japan. Manila is their last port of call and are collecting relief goods through the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
You've probably heard about the disaster that struck Japan last March 11, 2011. (News here)
Peace Boat is now conducting emergency relief activities in Ishinomaki City following the devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit northeastern Japan.
They need the help of everyone. Here are the recommended stuff to donate*:
Nail clippers
Lotion/hand cream/cleanser/facial wash
Cotton buds
Toothbrushes/toothpaste
Body towels/wet tissues
Hand mirrors
Underwear (especially for women)
Socks
Men’s trousers
Diapers (child and adult)
Feminine hygiene products.
*The Peace Boat website requests that donations be packed in cardboard boxes and not to mix goods in one box. We are planning on separating the goods into clothes and non-clothes.
However the deadline is in a week (April 13) so cooperation and help would be greatly appreciated to get this done. It'll take you just a couple of minutes to go through a closet and less than an hour to drop by the supermarket. Here are alternative drop of points for the Peace Boat project here in Manila:
