Pekan Nabalu Lookout Point - Kota Kinabalu

Pekan Nabalu - Kota Kinabalu Day 02
After having breakfast at the hotel, our tour van picked us up and off we go on a 2-hour journey up to see Mount Kinabalu (from afar). According to our tour guide, "Kina" means witch and "Balu" means mountain. Before, Mount Kinabalu was called Mount Api-Api. It was believed that the souls of the dead go up that mountain and thus, respect must be exercised when climbing Mount Kinabalu. Same as climbing other mountains.

Pekan Nabalu
It is a small village and a regular tourist stop. It has also a lookout point for Mount Kinabalu. The clouds weren't covering the entire tip yet but the clouds were moving fast when we arrived. After snapping some photos, we proceeded to the handicraft/ souvenir market. I bought some magnets and looked at other local items and touristy stuffs.

We were told to stay there for around 30-45 minutes and I did all of the above for 20 minutes. You know what I did for the last ten minutes? Lined up just to use the bathroom! It was such a blockbuster hit that I think that the guy makes more money than most of the stalls there. Make money? Yes! We have to pay RM 30cents just to use the substandard smelly loo.

I would understand if there was a line at the girls bathroom. But a line in the guys bathroom and you need to pay? That guy makes a lot even at 30cents each! $Kaching$ The bathroom is not even clean and there's no water. There is a dry bar of soap though if that is any consolation for you.
Tip: go to the washroom before going there. Saves time and money.

Here are some of the stuff for sale in the Pekan Nabalu market:
Handicrafts
Souvenir Shirts
Small Souvenir Items
Go around for the bit and ask several stores for the item you are eyeing to buy. It's okay to buy here because prices are competitive. A keychain set that looks like small dolls of around 8 pieces costs around RM 10! In the malls or in the city, it costs around 15 to 25 per set.

There really a lot of good places at Kota Kinabalu. I can't wait to go in a vacation there.
